I am not a cancer survivor, nor have I ever been diagnosed with having the disease. Nonetheless, in two short years, cancer has managed to turn my world upside down. In that time, I have lost three of the most important people in my life to cancer. Unfortunately however, I know that I am not alone and that my story is not unique. Cancer affects us all. I decided that cancer has taken so much from so many, that now it’s time to take back! The goals of Rainbow of Hope Inc. are to raise cancer awareness among Canadians, build a support network for patients and their families and help raise funds for research and other cancer related programs and/or services. Rainbow of Hope Inc. was created out of the pain, hurt, sorrow, grief, anguish and frustration I felt over the loss of my loved ones and from the drive and determination to help change the outcome for others. Unfortunately I can not change history, and I can not get all my loved ones back, but hopefully through the work of Rainbow of Hope Inc. and with your help, we can help change the future! For every life that is saved, extended or for every diagnosis that has a happy ending, we will have succeeded in taking back from cancer, what it has taken from so many,…life!

* All of the above cancer awareness colours are accepted and acknowledged as legitimate by their particular organizations. Not all cancers have a designated colour, therefore “Lavender” is the accepted colour for all other cancers.
* Please Note: The Kidney Cancer Association has recently changed their designated colour from Kelly Green to Orange. Although Rainbow of Hope will be moving forward with this new colour change in the future, we are still offering many of our items in the Kelly Green colour, while supplies last. Since Kelly Green has long been associated with Kidney Cancer, both colors will continue to bring awareness to Kidney Cancer. Therefore, while we have the items available in both colours, we will leave it up to you, our customers to determine which colour you would prefer. Items ordered in Kelly Green that are no longer available will automatically be substituted for the same product in Orange.

June brings to awareness to Sarcoma/Bone cancer. Primary bone cancer begins in the cells of one of the bones in the body. There are several types of bone cancer, but the three most common are: Osteosarcoma, Ewing’s Sarcoma and Chondrosarcoma. Although the signs and symptoms for bone cancer may vary, some of the more common symptoms include pain and swelling. Although experiencing any of these or other symptoms does not necessarily mean one has cancer, the best strategy for an early diagnosis is prompt attention to the signs and symptoms of this disease. If you or anyone you know has been touched by Sarcoma/Bone Cancer proudly wear your yellow awareness ribbon during the month of June.
June is also the month to honour all Cancer Survivors! National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual, worldwide Celebration of Life. On National Cancer Survivors Day, communities throughout the United States, Canada, and other participating countries honour cancer survivors for their strength and courage and recognize the contributions of families, friends, and healthcare providers! Check with your local cancer hospital for a scheduled event in your area for the 23rd annual National Cancer Survivors Day, or for more information visit www.ncsd.org
