Cancer Sucks
|
Many of you may have noticed that we sell a line of “cancer sucks” merchandise. You may wonder how these products raise cancer awareness. Initially you may think these words are harsh or offensive, but listed below are just a few of the reasons why we feel the words “cancer sucks” are perfectly suited.

We Chose the words we did because of…

Kim… a beautiful young mother who watched her little girls sob as she told them she wouldn’t get better and had to leave them.

Jill… our mentor, our hero. The kindest woman we ever knew who thought only of her family and friends. She died peacefully in her husband’s arms on a warm summer day.

Simon… Jill’s son who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and who now had his own battle to fight. A fight he’ll have to do without his mother at his side.

Tyler… a courageous little guy who suffered greatly in his short life of two years. His smile will never be forgotten. For Tyler’s young parents who aged beyond their years as they watched their baby endure test after test and stood by his grave site anyway.

Mary… who passed peacefully way on the night of her son’s wedding. She had looked forward to that wedding so, but her attendance was not meant to be.

Gail… a quiet, kind woman. A real trouper who fought the onset of her disease just weeks after returning from her honeymoon. She leaves a new husband, lost and alone.

Kathy… whose humor saw us all through the tough times. What will we do without those joked and laughter so important to our survival?

Melissa… a hysterically funny woman who, no matter how rough things were, could still do a mean “chicken dance” or have us all doing the “hokey pokey” at the drop of a hat.

Chris… our business partner and dear friend. Truly one of the most courageous women we have ever met. She fought her cancer daily for almost six years, never giving up hope, never losing her sense of humor. She saw a need for research funding and brought the three of us together. “Cancer Sucks” were Chris’s words. She said it as she prepared her husband and two young children for a life without her. She said it as she prepared the two of us remaining to run a business without her needed input. And she continued to say it regardless of how many people claimed to be “offended” by such a harsh statement.

Sandy… a soft spoken woman with a compassionate spirit. She suffered a great deal throughout her battle with this disease. She passed away quietly one summer morning several years ago, but will never be forgotten.

Erica… a beautiful young courageous woman with a warm smile and a kind heart. For Erica’s two young daughters that she leaves behind, who will have to grow up without their mother by their side.

Alan… . a hard-working man who enjoyed his own brand of humor. A man who befriended all and who was always right there whenever anyone needed him. A man of courage and strength, who battled harder than anyone could have imagined and who continuously beat the odds, until it became too much for him to bear. A man who so desperately looked forward to becoming a grandfather and to spoiling his first grandchild, but he never got the chance.

Sadie… a kind, generous, smart and warm hearted individual. A truly special lady who was always thinking of others. A brave soul who, when she received her diagnosis didn’t fear for herself, but didn’t want to put her family through another agonizing ordeal, just a few short months after they lost Alan. She died peacefully and quickly just one month after her diagnosis and was spared the painful months that awaited her.

The list goes on and on…

We say this for all of us who’ve been told those horrible words “you have cancer”. For the gut-wrenching fear that follows and for the tears that wouldn’t stop. For the friends and family that watch as their loved ones endure treatment after treatment and, in some cases, loose their battle in the long run. We used to say we were sorry you felt offended by our words. Now we feel incredibly sad that you do. We are angry that this disease has taken so many of our friends and loved ones. If you don’t like the term, don’t buy the product. But for Pete’s sake, just because you misconstrue the meaning, don’t begrudge anyone else from voicing their opinion. Until they find a cure we will keep screaming our outrage…and you should too! There is absolutely NO other way of saying it…..
