Movember Cancer Awareness Campaign

With December just around the corner I’m sure you’ve noticed that many more people are walking around with full moustaches then normal. Well, for those that don’t know, that is for the cancer awareness campaign known as movember. Movember is a cancer awareness campaign targeted around cancer awareness for prostate and other male cancers, and constitute growing a moustache from the first of November until the first of December. This is relatively new cancer awareness campaign, but even still has become a worldwide event to promote cancer awareness.

This cancer awareness originated not all that long ago in Melbourne, Australia and since then has exploded in to a global movement with over 1.9 million people participating in the cancer awareness campaign from New Zealand, to Canada, to Spain, and even Finland and many more.

The Movemeber cancer awareness campaign, with its global reach is at this point in time run by 2 different establishments. These establishments are Movember and Prostate Cancer Canada and they work together on this cancer awareness campaign to make sure that all of the funds raised by this cancer awareness campaign go to the right programs, with the right intentions, to find a cure.

 So how does Movember work?

This cancer awareness campaign begins the first of the months of November by anyone interested in the campaign full shaving their face (presumably men). From this point in the cancer awareness campaign these men have no choice but to grow there moustache for the entire month, luckily their beards can be shaved for this cancer awareness campaign. During the month, those participating, by either growing a moustache for the month, or collecting funds, will look for sponsors for the efforts being put in to the growing of these moustaches. All the funds raised go to help finding a cure, and other projects for cancer awareness, and at the end of the month many people will throw or attend one of the many Movember parties that are thrown around the world.

One thing that must be said about this cancer awareness campaign is the acceptance has been massive over the years, and it is believed in part to be the nature of the campaign – growing a moustache is kind of fun if you aren’t used to it.

So, for those of you that are just learning about Movember, it may be to late for this years cancer awareness campaign, but there’s always next year.
