Cancer Hope
Cancer, an alarming terminal disease can be manifested in more than 200
types in any part of the body. It affects people of all ages including
fetuses but the risk generally accelerates with age. Cancer is however
not the end of life and there is life after cancer diagnosis; there is
cancer hope. Amongst men prostrate and throat cancer are the most profound.
Cervical and breast cancer are the most predominant among women though
more awareness and cancer hope has been raised on the latter. October
for instance is the breast cancer month where medical institutions,
media and other firms carry out intensive breast cancer awareness
programs and cancer hope.
Cancer hope is early detection. Medics have said enough times that there is cancer
hope for those who get early cancer detection. This has proved true as such
patients have had successful treatment and their lives have returned to normalcy.
Self examination and medical check- ups are other ways through which cancer hope
is being achieved. Cancer hope can't be severed from awareness. Knowledge is power
and we should make it our business to learn all we can about this disease to deplete
misinformed myths, fears and fallacies about cancer. Cancer hope is therefore generated
from this knowledge as one gets to know the causes and simple things done to greatly
reduce chances of getting ill like exercising, eating right and avoiding carcinogenic
substances such as tobacco.
One of the major steps towards cancer hope does not actually lie in any laboratory
or hospital ward, it lies in the mind which is the most powerful organ thus cancer
patients should maintain positive attitudes so that even their bodies can respond
well to treatment. The will power is one of the greatest sources of cancer hope.
To cater for this most medical institutions that handle cancer cases have a counseling
unit to give cancer hope to not only the patients but their family members too. Cancer
hope is given globally thanks to the altruism of donors who are making contributions
towards the fight against cancer to individuals ill from the disease, foundations
and medical institutions. Special recognition should also be paid to cancer hope
patients who give consent to have new drugs tested on them in order to establish their
effectiveness which will go to give cancer hope to others suffering from the same.
Governments are also a powerful tool of cancer hope as they are endowed with
resources and the power to do so. All countries through their health ministries
or departments contribute to their research medical institution towards the attainment
of cancer hope through better medication, equipment and awareness creation. But is your
Government doing enough? All governments should see that state-owned medical
institutions are fully equipped and financed to handle cancer patients because cancer
is renowned to be an expensive disease whose treatment cannot be afforded by many.
Cancer hope is therefore a three-sided coin; cancer hope for the amelioration of
those with the disease, cancer hope for those who don't have the disease to lead a
conscious life with the hope of not getting it and cancer hope from all the efforts
being applied to make this world cancer-free in the coming future.
